Ryan Birnie wins 5th tournament on IGT KZN Tour
The IGT Pro Golf Tour KZN finished today at Gowrie Farm Golf Estate : www.gowrie.co.za and once again Ryan Birnie finished on top of the leader board after a closing 1 under par 70, for a 54 hole total of – 6 and a 5 shot victory. This is his 5th straight win in Kzn, Mathew Main finished 2nd on -1 and once again the 18th hole cost him, standing on the tee Mathew was only 1 shot behind Ryan but a triple drop 8 on the par 5 and Ryan’s birdie 4 and it was game over. The 17th and 18th holes cost Mathew 9 shots over the 3 days and hopefully that experience will help him going forward to close out an event when he gets a chance to do so. Ryan had a similar situation at Cotswold Downs in November 2013 when he was 1 shot ahead ofDrikus Van Der Walt playing the last hole and with only a 8 iron to the green hit it in the hazard and made a 6, Drikus made a birdie 4 and Ryan lost by 1 shot. Ryan has won 5 events on the trot since that loss. The final leader board at Gowrie looks like this,
Ryan Birnie – 6 69,68,70
Mathew Main -1 69,69,74
Kevin Rundle + 3 76,70,70
Bradley Jones +7 73,73,74
Darryn Myers +8 75,71,75
Elvis Sithebe +9 72,75,75
Arno Bartholoma +13 73,74,79
