Ockie Strydom successfully defended the IGT Mafeking Open at the Leopard Park Golf Club in Mafeking, North West, over the weekend.

The Mafeking Open, sponsored by North West Parks & Tourism Board , was a 54-hole three-day event and the first two rounds were part of the Mafeking Pro AM. Strydom posted a final round 4-under 68 to finish at 18-under and back to back wins.

Smith made a run at Strydom and took the lead after six holes. Smith was 7 under after six holes, which included two eagles, and turned in a 7 under 29 after nine holes. Strydom took the lead back on the par-4 8th hole with a eagle when his seconnd shot find the bottom of the cup.

Smith took the lead back on the 15th hole after Strydom made a drop and kept the lead going down the par-5 18th hole with the green surrounded by water.

Strydom’s drive was in the fairway and his second shot was just off the green and about 30 feet from the pin. Smith’s drive found the left rough and unfortunately his approach shot found the water and finished with a 7 under par 65. Strydom made a up and down for birdie to win by two shots.
